Our next PTA event will be “Read Across America Week,” a national event that promotes literacy to all K-8 students. See below for the fun activities we have planned for our school! A special thank you to Vista Grande Public Library for co-sponsoring this event!
SPIRIT WEEK: Get your wardrobe ready for another fun week of dressing up!

LIBRARY CARD RELAY: Did you know that all EDCS students are eligible for a library card through the Vista Grande Public Library? VGPL is right next door to our school and is an excellent resource for homework research, books, DVDs, and other materials…they even have telescopes you can check out! Be on the lookout for an email with a student library card application, which must be printed and signed by a parent/guardian. If you do not have access to a printer, please email Heidi at president@eldoradopta.org.
Feb. 16th – Deadline for students to turn in printed, signed applications to their teacher
Week of Feb. 28th – Cards delivered to the school to all students who turn in a signed application
BULLETIN BOARDS: Be on the lookout for some fun bulletin boards in the hallways! You can discover some teachers’ favorite childhood books (main hall) and get ideas for new, diverse books to read (middle school hall).
MYSTERY READERS: Middle schoolers and school staff will make “surprise” visits to our K-5 classrooms during “Read Across America Week!” They will be reading their favorite picture books to a class of their choosing and encouraging our younger students to read, read, read! Details and Mystery Reader sign-up are coming soon!
LITERACY SWAG: PTA will distribute small gifts to all K-8 students on Feb 28th!
DUST DEVIL SCAVENGER HUNT: Head over to the Vista Grande Library from Feb 26th until March 5th for a fun game! Pick up a scavenger hunt sheet from the desk and search the library for Dust Devil Mascots…find them all and turn in your sheet for a chance to win a bookworm booklight!
VGPL BOOK DISPLAYS: Take a look at some volunteer-recommended books and check out something fun to read! You can also add your recommendations to the Read Across America posters in the Children’s Room and Youth Room. **Fun Fact: One of our own Dust Devils will set up the book display…a fifth-grader who is a library volunteer!*
FREE LITTLE LIBRARIES: Did you know that there are two Free Little Libraries near our school? One behind the patio area, near the school garden, and the other at the entrance to VGPL. Take a short walk during “Read Across America Week” to take a free book or leave a book for someone else. Please be sure to take only one book per person. Thank you!
